The practice formalized as a partnership when Mr Ajay Chagan joined the existing firm of Ismail Vally Attorney and the firm changed its name and records accordingly.
Mr Ismail Vally was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa on the 11 July 1995 and Mr Chagan was so admitted on the 11 June 1996.
Both partners have acted as mediators for the Rental Housing Tribunal under the auspices of the Department of Human Settlements in terms of the Rental Housing Act 50 of 1999 since 2001 and are intimately acquainted with the provisions of the Rental Housing Act and regulations.
Mr Chagan has also acted as an adjudicator on the Rental Housing Tribunal since 2014 and has delivered over 300 judgements on matters concerning the Tribunal.
A thorough knowledge of the Act has served the partners well in dealing with all matters falling within the jurisdiction of the Rental Housing Tribunal, including, but not limited to, issues of unlawful termination of services, non-refunds of deposits, spoliations, maintenance issues, lock outs and failure to pay rent.
In addition, Mr Vally sits as an adjudicator at the Housing Transfer Bureau also conducted under the auspices of the Department of Human Settlements, Gauteng Provincial Government where he has delivered numerous Judgements regarding property allocation.
Mr Chagan was a senior lecturer and examiner in Magistrates Court Practice and Criminal Procedure at the School of Legal Practice in Johannesburg conducted under the auspices of the Law Society of South Africa from 2010 to 2015.
In addition both Mr Vally and Mr Chagan have been appointed as Commissioners at the Small Claims Court and render their services to the Department of Justice on a pro bono basis in this regard.
